Description

You’re here because you want to improve your playing, improve your sense of rhythm. Maybe you’re just getting started with playing piano, playing the guitar or drums.
Maybe you’ve:
•taught yourself,
•already have a music instructor or
•have taken an online course to get you to where you are now.
By the end of this course, you’ll have the musical skills to improve your sense of rhythm. You’ll be sight-reading, clapping, drumming, conducting (yes, you’ll be conducting an orchestra – no big deal), and playing polyrhythms with me.
The next few lessons will give you the basic musical skills musicians use to improve their sense of rhythm.
We’re going to be going over things like basic note values, time signatures, how to feel the beat and how to play in time.
So if you don’t know what I’m talking about don’t worry, I’ll be teaching you step-by-step.
If, on the other hand, you’re a seasoned musician already, you might like to use this course as a refresher. Or you may want to skip to the end, where we learn to play a two-part polyrhythm.
One of the features of this course is that you don’t need any equipment or even an instrument because we’ll be using things from around the house or just clapping to practice rhythm.
I’ve done this so you’ll grasp the basics of rhythm much more quickly and without distraction. Then you can easily take this knowledge and apply it to your own instrument – any instrument.

You will learn

✓ Internalize faster rhythms to play in time with the main beat
✓ Use time signatures to ‘feel’ the beat and stay in time
✓ Master a technique to stay on the beat, even during silences
✓ Play two-part rhythms, including polyrhythms to keep the beat steady
✓ You’ll be sight-reading, clapping, drumming and conducting along with me

Requirements

• No prior ability to read music required
• No musical instrument (piano, guitar, etc.) required
• No previous knowledge of music or music theory required

This course is for

• Beginner musicians who want to improve their sense of rhythm

B.Mus. / Career Musician
Great courses for Musicians, Beginner to Advanced. I’ll teach you the music skills to play more of the music you love. Whether you’ve taught yourself guitar, have taken an online course on playing beginner piano or are looking to turn professional, you need these skills to get ahead.  You can learn to read music, sight read, develop your aural skills through ear-training.
Learn music and have fun! Learning music theory doesn’t have to be dry and boring. My courses get you actually playing, reading and writing music – not just watching videos.
Learning a musical instrument can be extremely expensive. There’s the cost of the instrument, the lessons, the tutor books. My courses will save you money in the long run because the skills you learn don’t require you to even own an instrument. If you learn from a instrument instructor, your teacher won’t have to waste time in the lesson explaining e.g. how to read the rhythm.
If you’re interested in songwriting, my courses will stimulate your creativity by showing you how music is and can be structured. It will open your ears to all sorts of musical possibilities.
About me
My professional musical background is in music performance, specifically the flute. After graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, I embarked on a very busy freelance career in Sydney, Australia. Highlights include performing to thousands of school children in a wind quintet called The Windbags, playing in pick-up orchestras for the Bolshoi Ballet, Broadway cast of Porgy and Bess, John Denver and even was support act for Dire Straits.
I’ve been lucky enough to have some amazing experiences – too many to outline here. You would never guess that a classical musician could have so much fun. Seriously though, it was being able to read music and improve my playing and develop my reputation that so many doors opened. That has made me determined to share my skills with you so that you can have fun and opportunity, too.
I look forward to us having some fantastic musical experiences together.
– Anne.
