Description

Have you always been intrigued by mathematical proofs and how they are constructed? Have you always had the misconception that only Math geniuses can do proofs? Well now you can understand and write maths proofs too!
This course is an introduction for beginners to proofs and helps you understand what proofs are really about. We start by one of the most famous proofs techniques known as proof by contradiction. We first explain what proof by contradiction is and then we start going right into some exercises!
We will prove several math statements in the course. For example, I will show how you can prove that the square root of 2 is irrational or that there is an infinite number of primes!
By the end of this course, you should be fairly familiar with proofs by contradictions and should be able to embark on your journey with proofs since you will have a solid foundation of how proof by contradiction, a very basic but strong proof method, really works.

You will learn

✓ How to prove a statement using contradiction
✓ How proof by contradiction really works
✓ The intuition behind proof by contradiction
✓ Clear understanding of one of the strongest proof techniques in mathematics
✓ Understanding of what a rational, irrational, primes, and other mathematical terms mean

Requirements

• Very basic understanding of algebra

This course is for

• Anyone interested in mathematical proofs
• Anyone interested in becoming a math or computer science major
• Anyone who wishes to understand mathematical proofs and their elegance
Double Major in Mathematics and Computer Science
I am currently a Senior studying a Double Major in Mathematics and Computer Science, which are my main two passions. I have so many passions and interests. They include but are not limited to Competitive programming, Math Proofs, video game programming, and machine learning just to name a few! However, I would have to say that my main passion is teaching. I really enjoy teaching to everyone, and I really enjoy when my students get that “Aha!” moment.
