Description

Follow photographer Andre D. Wagner as he roams the streets of New York documenting life as it passes by. This class shows Andre’s method of working as well as his personal means of expression. In this process you’ll learn the immediate way in which he captures everyday reality, and his efforts to allow photographs to have a visual language of their own. You’ll get insight as to how he approaches strangers, photographs with confidence, and the importance of following your gut reaction. If you love street photography, storytelling as a visual language, or just endlessly curious about life, this is the class for you.

You will learn

Create a set of 4 images that speak for themselves.

ASSIGNMENT

Create a set of 4 images after spending a day shooting around your city or neighborhood. This assignment will help you understand the importance of being committed, passionate, and dedicated-it will also get you thinking about your photography in a long term manner. The focus of your images should be about content and form, what’s actually going on in the image and is it complete in the frame. Images that speak for themselves have a universal language rooted in humanity, so think about action or scenes that may inform social awareness, and/or speak to life and it’s ambiguity.

DELIVERABLE

Upload 4 photographs that speak for themselves but also work together as a group. Give your photo set a title. What to consider about your images:

  • Content and form – think about what the image is about and all the information that’s included in the frame.
  • How does the photo make you feel and how does it inform the viewer? (intensity, spontaneity, sense of life, etc.)
  • Photograph what you like!
  • Don’t have preconceptions about how your images should look, be open to what can happen.
