Description

This video lesson takes you step by step through an 11×14 painting of a pink tulip. This class is best for the beginner to intermediate painter. During this lesson, you will learn how to use a Mr Clean Magic Eraser to lift paint and blur edges.

SUPPLIES YOU WILL NEEED

COLORS (If you don’t have these colors, use what you have unless you want to spend the money to purchase)

New Gamboge (and other yellows you have)

Permanent Yellow Light

Permanent Alizarin Crimson

Permanent Rose and other pinks you have

Burnt Sienna

Winsor Blue, Green Shade

Cadmium Orange

Cobalt Blue

Hookers Green

OTHER SUPPLIES

140 LB Arches Cold Press Paper (This is the best paper to use)

2H pencil/eraser

Paint Brushes

Super soft brush for blending (You can use make up brushes or any inexpensive super soft brush.)

The original Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (found in the broom aisle in Walmart)

Terry cloth towels

Blue painters tape

Any other supplies you have

You will learn

Reference Photo: The attached file has the reference photo for the class. You can print it out and refer to it while you are painting. My painting size is 11×14 in the video.

Finished Painting: A photo of the finished painting is also attached. It can be a good reference while you are painting.

Using the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser–need the eraser, clean water, and blue painter’s tape

Use a piece of scrap Arches paper to paint two areas about 4×4 each. Use any color (other than yellow) that will allow you to see the value difference after you lift the paint.

On one of the paint patches, block off a center stripe using two pieces of blue painters tape. Press the pieces of tape down on the paper.

Break off a piece of the Magic Eraser, dip it in the water, and then squeeze off most of the liquid. Stroke down the center of the painted patch that does not have the tape. Stroke lightly in one direction to see how much paint is lifted. Repeat to see the results.

Now go to the patch with the tape. Dip and squeeze the Magic Eraser. Stroke down the center of the two pieces of tape making sure to keep between the tape. Repeat to lighten the area. Remove the tape and see the results.
