I would love you to have a go of some if not all of the assignments listed below. There is no time limit as photography is a creative marathon and not a sprint. So you can work your way through the list at your own pace and upload your best photographs for review. Of course the assignments are optional, but it would be great to find out how you are getting along with the various techniques.

Assignment One – Simplicity
Capture a selection of photographs that show an understanding of the importance of simplicity. Your chosen photographs should have minimal content and should be pleasing to look at raising an emotion or be thought provoking.
Assignment Two – The Rule of Thirds
The Rule of Thirds helps us to create a well balanced photograph. Capture a selection of photographs that clearly displays the use of the grid system. Depending on your composition place subject matter, horizons, eyelines etc in the correct positions on the grid.
Assignment Three – Framing
Find elements in your environment to frame your subject. Look for the unusual and be as inventive and creative as possible. Remember framing your subject leads the viewers eyes to the subject matter.
Assignment Four – Viewpoints
Changing your viewpoint will help you to look at the world a little differently and capture some unique photographs. Take a selection of photographs using unusual viewpoints. For example: Try an extreme low position.
Assignment Five – Leading Lines
Use leading lines found in your environment to gently lead the viewers eyes to the subject matter. Your photographs should clearly show the use of leading lines – think walkways, paths, riverbanks etc.
Assignment Six – Landscapes
Shoot a suitable landscape during the golden hour and include interesting foreground, mid and background detail. Maintain a sharp focus throughout using a small aperture.
Assignment Seven – Line
Capture a contemporary image using strong line found in your environment. Remember to look up as line can be found in architecture in the hard edges of buildings. Alternatively find strong line in nature in tall grasses etc.
Assignment Eight – Symmetry
Symmetry can be found in man made structures and nature Also look for reflections in glass and reflective surfaces and water. Capture a selection of images that show true symmetry and also reflections in either glass or water.
Assignment Nine – Vanishing Points
Vanishing points are converging lines that take you on a journey. The lines can converge anywhere within your photograph. Capture a selection of photographs featuring vanishing points. Think tube and subway stations, roads and freeways, tunnels, paths etc.
Assignment Ten – Curves and Shapes
Find curves and shapes in your environment and capture a selection of photographs. Remember to zone in on buildings to capture sweeping curves and angular shapes. And dont forget shapes and curves found in nature.
Assignment Eleven – Pattern
Get creative and capture a selection of photographs that feature a pattern that was never intended to be a pattern. Try and shoot the unusual and create something unique.
Assignment Twelve – Staged and Props
In this assignment you can be super creative by staging a shot and adding unusual personal items. Let your imagination loose and create a unique photograph in your environment. Have fun and remember to use the techniques discussed in previous modules.
Assignment Thirteen – Portraits
Capture a selection of portraits shot in natural light either indoors or outdoors. Remember to use a large aperture (small f number) to create an out of focus background. And position the ‘eye-line’ in the correct position.
Assignment Fourteen – Street
Visit your city or town and capture a selection of street photographs. Include people going about their daily life and also try to capture people at work in their environment.
