Description

The “Medical English for ESL Students and Professionals” Part 1 consist of 29 classes, 482 new Medical English words and phrases, and more than 3 hours of recordings. All lessons have text, pictures to study from, and recordings of the teacher. There are exercises to practice the newly learned terminology and doctor-patient dialogs to practice some of the terminology in the form of conversation.
This level is for people with little or no knowledge of Medical English. It slowly builds up a solid foundation, starting with essential topics such as Organ Systems (covering 8 organ systems in the human boy), Medical Equipment (such as equipment for examination and treatment, surgery and after surgery equipment, bandage and support, etc.), Medication (categorized in how it is introduced to the body and on the medical condition), Hospital Departments (covering 13 medical departments in a hospital), and Most Common Diseases (in the form of 8 doctor-patient dialogs).
In the recordings the teacher speaks slowly and clearly to ensure that she is fully understood by the students. There are lots of repetitions of the new words and phrases and plenty of pronunciation practice. The course is designed in such a way – simple and clean, that the only prerequisite needed for this course is basic level English.

When I was a child I lived in Germany, in my 20s I lived in the United States and in my 30s I lived in China. There I created a teaching program based on my experience as a medical practitioner and put together a 200 page Medical English textbook, which Shenzhen university published, and later republished. For my work as curriculum developer and university lecturer I was  granted an Honorary Award by the Medical department of Shenzhen university. During my stay in China I was also appointed Visiting Professor of Health and Family Planning at the Continuing Education Centre of Shenzhen Municipality. There I thought Medical English and Medical Terminology to Western medicine doctors and prepared them for specialisation abroad. My online classes are all based on my experiences as a medical practitioner, university lecturer, course designer and curriculum developer.
