Welcome to the ‘Finger Cymbals for Beginners’ course by Nico. This course is geared to those with some belly dance experience who are looking to learn how to play the finger cymbals with their dance. Learning to play these instruments can have amazing benefits including; a better understanding of Arabic music, an understanding of Arabic/Middle Eastern rhythms, and an over-all skill that is embedded deep in this dance styles history and roots.
In these classes, we will focus on learning finger cymbal basics that will be drilled with various moves and combinations that will help build a strong foundation of skills that can be grown on. Reference and study sheets are also provided to help reinforce what we learn and aid with personal practice and growth. All classes will start with a simple warm-up, followed by detailed explanations of each cymbal pattern and movement, and end with a class combo to help put what was covered into practice.
Topics covered include:
Class 1- How to wear and strike your cymbals, singles and doubles patterns.
Class 2- Review of singles and doubles, rolls and the gallop patterns.
Class 3- Switching between the basic patterns, and strengthening our playing.
Class 4- Accents and playing with the dance.
