Detailed Analysis

CourseMarks Score®

7.3 / 10

CourseMarks Score® helps students to find the best classes. We aggregate 18 factors, including freshness, student feedback and content diversity.

Freshness Score

5.0 / 10
This course was last updated on 10/2017.

Course content can become outdated quite quickly. After analysing 71,530 courses, we found that the highest rated courses are updated every year. If a course has not been updated for more than 2 years, you should carefully evaluate the course before enrolling.

Student Feedback

We analyzed factors such as the rating and the ratio between the number of reviews and the number of students, which is a great signal of student commitment. If a course does not yet have a rating, we exclude Feedback Score from the overall CourseMarks Score.

New courses are hard to evaluate because there are no or just a few student ratings, but Student Feedback Score helps you find great courses even with fewer reviews.

Content Score

9.2 / 10
Video Score: 7.8 / 10
The course includes 1h 22m video content. Courses with more videos usually have a higher average rating. We have found that the sweet spot is 16 hours of video, which is long enough to teach a topic comprehensively, but not overwhelming. Courses over 16 hours of video gets the maximum score.

Description

Welcome to the Double Oval Drops Earrings class! If you’ve watched any of my other jewellery making video classes you’ll already know that I like to get the most out of my tools and equipment – after all, they’ve cost me money so they need to pay their way! One of my favourite (yet more expensive) pieces of equipment is my disc cutter. It is very good quality and is still doing as good a job now as it did when I bought it ten years ago, but to get best value for money I like to use it for more than just cutting simple round discs.

This class is one of a few that I have filmed that will teach you how to get more from your disc cutter. I’ll show you how to turn round discs into ovals that we will then solder back to back to create a lovely 3D design. This class will also help you to improve your delicate soldering skills.

This is one of a series of video classes, each one showing you how to quickly and easily make a lovely pair of earrings – sometimes two pairs – as part of my #52earrings challenge. I have challenged myself to design and film tutorials for 52 pairs of earrings in 2017, and I’d love you to join me. In each video I will show you the materials you will need, explain the tools and equipment and go through all the steps needed to create your own lovely pair of earrings. Along the way I will share with you the same hints and tips that I teach in my jewelry making classes and private tuition so that you become more confident with your techniques and design skills with each class that you watch.

This class is an intermediate class as the soldering will take a little patience! However, In the soldering sections of the class I will discuss some ways you could simplify the design.

The equipment needed for the project is explained in the videos and also listed on a downloadable document that covers most of the tools that I will use in future earrings video classes as well so you can plan ahead! All the equipment listed can be used for a variety of other jewellery making projects.

You will learn

Use the instructions in the videos to learn how to get more from your disc cutter than circles and make a lovely pair of drop earrings! My earrings were made from a 12.7mm (0.5″) diameter disc but of course you can use different sizes for different looks if you wish. Remember that a good range of pre-cut discs are available from good suppliers such as Cookson Gold in the UK and Rio Grande in the USA if you don’t have access to a disc cutter.

You will need to use a cross-pein (straight head) hammer to turn the round discs oval so changing the texture on the silver isn’t really possible in this class, but you could change the size of the discs or the metal used for a different look. You could also change the size of colour of the beads.

In the soldering sections of the class I discuss some ways you could simplify the design.

Remember to download the equipment list and the photo tutorials and upload some photos – I always love to see your projects!
