Description

This course is for guitarists of any level who are looking for a way to start learning how to improvise.  Using the framework of a twelve bar blues, this course will introduce you to some of the basic concepts behind how to build a solo, how to play and improvise chord voicings behind a soloist, and how to draw harmonic material from some widely used scales.  This course consists of five sections:

-The 12 Bar Blues Form
-Blues Comping
-Blues Soloing
-The Major Pentatonic Scale
-The Minor Pentatonic Scale

Each section consists of a lesson video and downloadable PDF file to help you follow along, plus another video full of exercises that are intended to help you get the material from each lesson under your fingers and into your ears.  The exercise video for each section is also accompanied by a downloadable PDF file so that you are able to work on the exercises long after you’ve watched the video.

This course is not like other guitar courses.  The material is attainable yet fast paced, and is meant to provide you with enough material to direct your practice for quite some time.  If you’re willing to put the work in, this course will elevate your playing and give you what you need to feel confident while playing the blues.

If you’re new to the guitar and you’re interested in learning the blues, or if you’ve been playing for a while but have always been more of a chord strummer, then this course is just what you need!

Professional Guitarist
Hey!  My name is Dave and I’m a professional guitarist here in Toronto, Canada.  I have been playing professionally for over a decade now and in that time I’ve had the opportunity to support some really talented artists across a wide range of genres and styles. While my performance history may not reflect it, I’ve always really enjoyed studying jazz music.  I received my BMus in 2012 from Toronto’s Humber College, and I also studied bebop for several years under an apprentice of Dr. Barry Harris.Ever since the beginning of my career, teaching has always been something that I am passionate about.  I have been fortunate enough to have had some very inspiring teachers myself in my formative years and I feel proud to have the opportunity to pass on my own love of music and the guitar to students across the globe.  Nowadays, the world is filled with really great resources like YouTube where anybody who wants to learn a specific song can do so for free.  I make it a point to fill my online courses with material that cannot be found for free online, and that will empower my students with the background knowledge that will allow them to see past these more short term musical goals and appreciate the guitar and music more deeply.
